Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa

#Phuket #phuketvillas #northeastphuket #investor #golf

Please note this is a repost as blogger lost the previous information.

There are nine golf courses on the island including two nine hole courses. The North East of Phuket only boasts one course, but one of the most spectacular with views across Phang Nga Bay. Situated only 10 minutes from The Curve and in the opposite direction 10 minutes from the airport.

This first class golf course is fittingly complimented by a 5-star clubhouse facilities & services, and Resort Hotel & Spa. The comprehensive golfing facilities include modern and spacious locker rooms, natural driving range, practiced putting green, and fully equipped Pro shop. At the luxurious clubhouse's restaurant & cafe, one can choose and dine delicious Thai & International cuisine, or relax at the Resort's swimming pool and Spa.

Nestled amongst a coastal mangrove forest and rubber plantations, Mission Hills Golf Resort offers a challenging championship layout with several holes right onto the beach. Measuring a challenging 6,806 yards from the back tees or a more accommodating 6,308 from the front, this 18 hole, par 72 course is designed to provide a test for experienced golfers, yet accommodating for the occasional player the course provides a relaxing round of golf for all. Water comes into play on numerous holes along with warm sea breezes.

Mission Hills is the only course in Phuket on the sea front and such, the trade-off for this proximity to the sea is soil with a higher salt content, making it harder to maintain their grass. As a result, course conditions can be in less than top condition. However, it still offers a relaxing round for those who are willing to sacrifice a little condition to enjoy the sea views and beat the stress of the crowds. During the green season however, there is significantly more rain which helps coupled with the course watering system to give a lush playing surface.

The course creates a sense of fun and excitement while testing the accuracy of each player with several peculiar features along the layout. The 18th hole sets up several options of play from the tee with 2 greens, allowing you to choose an alternative end to your game. Unusual features of the course include an island which has two greens for the 2nd and 5th holes. The par 5 2nd hole requires two accurate shots, leaving a comfortable third to the island green while the par 4 5th plays back to the island green from island tees in a huge sandy waste.

The convenient location, luxurious facilities and championship golf, all combine to make Mission Hills a sought-after, world-class golf destination. Stay and Play packages are also available at Mission Hills Resort & Spa with attractively decorated rooms and suites with golf course views, fully equipped with all the modern amenities for your total comfort.

Phuket Seafront Property brings 89% more

#phuket #phuketvillas #northeastphuket #investor

Monday 26 August 2013, 05:03PM from the Phuket News.

A recent analysis by property consultancy Knight Frank has confirmed what anyone in Phuket will tell you – that waterfront property commands a huge price premium. Knight Frank has put a number on that premium, in sought-after coastal locations in Phuket, it says, real estate costs 89 per cent more than for similar properties inland. The figure comes in a survey Knight Frank carried of 10 places around the world that attract international money for real estate. The Phuket premium is one of the highest in the world, exceeded only by Lake Como in Switzerland and Barbados, where waterfront property sells at double the price of inland real estate. They were followed by homes in Phuket and the central Algarve along Portugal’s southern coast, where values increase by 89 per cent and 75 per cent respectively. At the other end of the scale, prime waterfront properties in coastal locations in Dubai are worth on average only 10 per cent more than inland homes. In The Hamptons, home to some of the most expensive residential properties in the US, the presence of water nearby increases the value of a property only by an average of 30 per cent.

Drive the North East of Phuket

#phuket  #phuketvillas #northeastphuket

Travelling around the North East of Phuket, it is hard not to notice the green and pleasant land that makes up this part of the island. It takes me back to the time we first visited the island in 1988. Then the whole island was a green and pleasant land. There was little traffic and there was an easy going nature on the island as a whole.

Things change everywhere, not necessarily always for the better, but things change. I am not here to decry the way Phuket has changed, but to extol its beauty and especially the North East of Phuket and the hold it has over people.

There are countless small roads that meander through the area; you can almost always discover something new and exciting to look at. We like to drive a road that takes us from the 7 Eleven shop, at the Ao Por intersection. Turning left and north, passing the Supalai Resort and Spa, eventually arriving via Radi Medical, back on the Paklok to Mission Hills road. The views are spectacular, especially travelling the route in reverse, but it is difficult to find unless you have done the trip a few times.
The rubber plantations in the area are numerous, quiet and peaceful places, interspersed with cattle or water buffalo grazing. Occasional you see people wandering and tending either the trees or the pineapples that grow amongst the younger plantations. There is still plenty of jungle, standing vertically off the steep banks or rising out of the cuttings where the road winds, so dense in parts it is black as you try to look through the vegetation. Stop, take a breath and the occasional photograph, just to prove that it is all real and such places exist in the hustle that is now the south and west of Phuket.

You are taken from the heights of the surging landscape down to the sea and back again passing the occasional fish farm and local fishermen’s houses. The road can become overgrown bringing the access down to barley a cars width in parts, but still a pleasure to drive. The switchback both up and down reminds one of a roller-coaster ride, one you can control and stop when you desire.

I only hope the area stays the same, undisturbed peace…………North East Phuket

Just as nature intended, today’s lunch.

#Phuket #Phuketvillas #phuketnortheast

How to eat in the forest, yet still observe the best in Thai food, that is Peang Prai.  All presented with simple grace and attention to detail.

The restaurant’s location is just as nature intended. The name Peang Prai in Thai means ‘like a forest’ and the restaurant certainly is that. The top floor is open on all sides, with a link to the new extension, both sections take in the view of the surrounding jungle. The area is part of Khao Phra Teo Wildlife Conservation Park, with the Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre and Bang Pae Waterfall.
We believe Peang Prai has been here since 2006. You will always receive a warm welcome from Khun Bon and his wife, Nid. This is truly a family affair with Khun Bon’s mother, heading up the kitchen. On one of our first visits Khun Bon invited us to tour the garden, where many of the herbs and plants they use are grown. He is always available to assist with food selection if you are not sure what to choose.

There is always a good mix of people, mainly locals, both Thai and farang, with a small selection of well-read and advised tourists. Weekends are always busy as people travel from all over the island for a Saturday or Sunday treat. The new extension was built with this in mind, so everybody can find a table even at the busiest times.

Today I had my personal favourite, Buer Tod (deep fried prawns and herbs), this is large prawns sitting on fragrant Leb Krut leaves, in a light local batter. There is always a slight hint of spice with chilli paste to give a little flair, with a sweet chilli dipping sauce and only 100 baht. My large Chang Export is always on hand to wash it down. One of the best priced at 70 baht.
The main dish today was the very simple but always good Khao Phad Gai (fried rice with chicken) and I always ask for Kai Dow (a fried egg to sit on top). Just for me and to set it off a little Prig Naam Plaa (chopped chillies in a fish sauce). 240 baht for two large portions.

As always we finished with a plate of complimentary banana fritters. These are batter-fried banana pieces, rolled in roasted black sesame seeds and icing sugar. They work well with the freshly brewed coffee, latte at 60 baht and black coffee at 50 baht.

Peang Prai’s menu is full and interesting you can order many of the usual dishes, curries, vegetables dishes and many rice and noodle variations. Lots of beer, a variety of soft drinks and wine by the glass.

Situated 8kms from the Heroine’s Monument, towards Paklok and just few kilometers past Phuket Air Par. Turn left into a road leading to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre, Bang Pae Safari on the corner. The new large sign cannot be missed follow the road for about 1km and it’s on the left.

Tales from the past.

#Phuket #phuketvillas

We have been travelling  to Phuket since 1988. Yes, it was very quiet then. Only one main road, Thepkasattri Road but not as you know it now. It was just wide enough for one car and a commercial vehicle to pass, not that we ever saw one.

Buying petrol was fun for our rented Suzuki Jeep....!! There were steel oil drums either suspended under a rattan roof or on the ground with a hand pump. It was fun but positively dangerous, with the dispensers often smoking while working.

You could count the main hotels on one and a half hands. The Pearl Village was a dream (now Indigo Pearl). That was our first impression of the island, where we now live.

We have been travelling back periodically ever since, finally retiring here in 2011.

To keep us informed during the intervening period, we relied on the internet and a blog by Jamie Monk called Jamie's Phuket. A total inspiration to those who love and need to know about Phuket (see link Jamie's Phuket). So here we are, our love of the North East takes us back to 1988 and all things we loved about the island.

Just to show how the island has changed ( more than a little) here is a photograph from my collection, of Patong Beach taken in 1988.

Just North of The Curve Phuket

#Phuket #phuketvillas

Just north of The Curve Phuket and Ao Por Grand Marina lies the islands of Phang Nga Bay. Its a 15 minutes boat ride to the best of the best in sight seeing, kayaking, scuba diving and snorkelling. You could just laze back on the boat you are travelling in and take in the rays.
For those of you with a passion for flying, there are numerous light aircraft and helicopter rides available. Just take a look at some of the aerial photographs of North East Phuket's treasures.
